Son of a signer of the Declaration of Independence, Harrison enjoyed all the trappings of the Virginia aristocracy but achieved fame as an Indian fighter and frontier politician. When the Shawnee Chief, Tecumseh, challenged white settlers, Harrison's militia smashed the Indian forces in the Battle of Tippecanoe. It earned Harrison his nickname and lasting fame.
